The Cabarrus County School District, in cooperation with the Hickory Ridge Bible Teaching Association (HRBTA) offers elective courses in Bible at Hickory Ridge High School.

Purpose

The Bible has had a profound influence on American community life, law literature, music, art and history. The Bible has also had a significant affect upon world history and culture. Since a complete education should include the religious and Biblical influences on world and American culture, the Hickory Ridge Bible Teaching Association is organized to provide funds for the teaching of academic elective Bible courses to students at Hickory Ridge High School. Teaching academic Bible courses in public education is a legal enterprise as ruled by the Supreme Court. In Abington Township v. Shempp (1963), the Supreme Court stated that “the Bible is worthy of study for its literary and historical qualities alone.” The court went on to say in Stone v. Grahamn that “the Bible may be constitutionally used in an appropriate study of history, civilization, ethics and the like.”

Overview

We are fortunate to live in a community where the benefits of offering high school students the opportunity to study the Bible in an academic way is still valued.  Each high school in Cabarrus County can offer elective, academic Bible classes IF- and ONLY IF- the funds are raised each year. The number of Bible classes offered to students each semester directly depends on the financial support of the community.

                               NO FUNDS = NO CLASSES!
We must raise $50,000 to fund two semesters of Bible classes. That is over $4,100 a month - all from community sources (individuals, families, businesses, churches, etc)! The Hickory Ridge Bible Teaching Association (HRBTA) is responsible for raising these funds. The HRBTA NEEDS YOU! Without support from you and others in the community the students will not have a chance to take a Bible course at HRHS.
